Why Get Vegan Makeup?
Understanding what vegan makeup is and why it’s better
When I first went into the cosmetics world, it surprised me how many chemicals and truly horrible sounding ingredients were actually in makeup. For example below are just a few really common ingredients found in your shampoos, lipsticks, liquid foundations, and eye shadows:
- DEA – this is a chemical called diethanolamine which is linked to skin irritation and can also cause inflammation in the nose and throat.
- Dioxane – this is often used as a solvent and is mixed with many liquid makeups. Additionally it is also a carcinogen and is linked to organ damage!
- Ammonium Laureth Sulfate – this is another carcinogen that is used as an emulsifier in cosmetics. It is also found in laundry detergents, and industrial cleaning products. Its dangers, aside from potentially causing cancer, are skin irritation and toxicity of the body and organs.
Now, those are just three simple ingredients that are found in the vast majority of cosmetics bought in stores. I’ve not even touched on the fact that
you find harmful elements such as mercury, cyclomethicone, nitrosamines, isopropyl alcohol, polyethylene glycol and so much more!
You see, your skin is filled with billions of pores and when you use normal cosmetics with these ingredients in them, it may not affect you at first because they are a small percentage, but you generally use makeup on a daily basis. Imagine constant exposure to carcinogens, agents that cause skin irritation and even things that can literally poison your organs! Aside from that, these cosmetics were tested on animals that were subjected to excruciating pain through extensive testing.
So, after being in the cosmetics business for a while, I decided that I was going to create a product line that was 100% natural, chemical free, vegan makeup and cosmetics.
Non Vegan/Natural Cosmetics
If your skin is even the slightest bit sensitive, you probably have had a reaction to your cosmetics before. Wearing normal cosmetics bought at general stores can do so much to your skin and body, but let’s take a look at some of the visual problems these cosmetics cause:
- Skin spots
- Break outs
- Sweating/shiny appearance
If you’re preparing for your wedding or a huge moment in your life, dealing with breakouts, a rash, or even swelling is something that can make you dread looking at the photos later on in life as well as make you completely lose your confidence. This is supposed to be one of the best days of your life so taking a chance with chemical laced cosmetics is something that many upcoming brides avoid at all costs.
Benefits of Vegan Makeup
Budget friendly and eco friendly – While natural vegan makeup may be a bit higher priced than some cosmetics you find at a general store, my specific line of “Keeping it Natural” makeup is actually very comparably priced. Additionally, when you notice that over time, you need less and less foundation and concealer since your skin has a natural and beautiful glow, you actually end up saving money!
100% natural products used – No chemicals, no harmful products – everything is 100% natural and not tested on animals in any way.
Healthier for your skin – I cannot stress enough how much of a change people notice after going with natural vegan makeup for a few weeks. It may take a few passes with the foundation to completely cover red marks caused by your old makeup, but the transition is one that you will never regret when you finally have that healthy glowing skin you’ve always wanted!
Can reduce break outs and irritation – Since there are absolutely no chemicals used in natural vegan makeup, you never have to worry about adverse reaction to them. Vegan makeup is healthy for your skin and allows it to breathe which is why, if you are transitioning to vegan makeup, you should start it around a week or more before your wedding so you can truly experience the dramatic change in the health of your skin on your wedding day!
No “shine” – Normal cosmetics from stores can cause you to perspire more because your skin is being slightly irritated by having these harmful chemicals caked onto it. Unfortunately that creates an annoying “shiny” appearance that you have to frequently buff with some additional powder. When it comes to vegan makeup, however, your skin is allowed to breathe and, while it cannot stop you naturally perspiring, it is absolutely perfect for creating that soft and matte finish for your big day.
Highly pixelated – Many people feel that they won’t get the strong colors that you’d normally see in store bought chemical makeup, however with vegan makeup they’re so wrong! My makeup line has incredibly strong pigments and you truly only need a tiny bit of eye shadow or blush to get some fabulously vibrant colors!
